Kharkhorin was established in 1220. It was capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital of Mongol Empire for 32 years. Erdene zuu monastery was erected on the initiative of Aptai Sain Khaan in 1586 at Kharakhorum. The Monastery surrounded by a massive wall which is 402 x 402 meter. There are 4 gates at the each side walls consist of 108 stupas, 25 on each and 2 at every corner. In the former times, the Monastery included of 100 temples with 1000 monks.

Day 1

Early morning drive to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongolian Empire in the 13^th century and "Erdene Zuu" Monastery. In the afternoon arrive in Kharkhorin city and visit magnificient Erdene Zuu Monastery built on the ruins of the Kharkhorin in 1586, was the first Buddhist center in Mongolia. The temples contain a valuable collection of Buddhist sculptures, artwork and books. Dinner and overnight at ger guesthouse. 

Day 2

After breakfast drive back to Ulaanbaatar on the way stop at the Elsen-tasarkhai which is narrow sand dune lays about 90 km long. Perfect place for linking on the san dunes. And then stopover and take some photos at Khustai National Park. (if you want to see the wild horses, you can stay one more night at this park.) Late afternoon come to UB.
