Baga Gazriin Chuluu – A Picturesque Mountain Baga Gazriin Chuluu is a picturesque mountain in the Gobi desert. With at an elevation of 1.751 metres, it is located in the granite belt. Its valleys abound with streams. The ruins of a small monastery are on the south east part of the mountain. This huge deep lake is situated on the north edge of Mongolia, and it covers an area of 2612 square kilometers. It is a large lake , extending 134 km north- south and 39 km east- west. It attains an altitude of 1624 meters above sea level, just west of the National boundary. Khovsgol Lake is the deepest lake in Central Asia, with a maximum depth of 262 meters. Its water is crystal clear and fresh. The reflections of larch forests and majestic mountains in the lake water are amazing. Living in the National Park are members of the Khalkh, Buriad and Darkhat ethic groups, and in the taiga forest and forest- steppe live the Tsaatan Reindeer herders. These people use reindeers for transporting supplies, riding and milking have done so for centuries. Kharkhorin was established in 1220. It was capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital of Mongol Empire for 32 years. Erdene zuu monastery was erected on the initiative of Aptai Sain Khaan in 1586 at Kharakhorum. The Monastery surrounded by a massive wall which is 402 x 402 meter. Khorgo Uul is dead volcano which lies on the east of the Terkhinn Tsagaan in Arkhangai Aimag. The mountain Khorgo is covered with basalt. The National Park covers 28 square kilometers including Togoo uul- 2240 meters above sea level and the hill of the Terkhinn Tsagaan. It has been protection since 1965. An interesting sight is so called “ Basalt Ger” on the south, bubble of solidified lava with a broken piece making a natural door. Some atone gers are 1,7 metres tall. Khongoriin Els has an extraordinary length of 180 kilometers and 15 – 20 meters wide lies on the Northern part of the Mountains of Servee and Zuulen. Bayan Zag is located near of Bulgan sum, and archeological finds of the Palaeolithic Era were found here. Bayan Zag is internationally famous for dinosaurs remains - complete dinosaur skeletons, eggs and hatchling, of the Cretaceous Period. Dinosaurs discovered here include: Protocerators ( first – horned dinosaur ), Oviraptor ( RFF - thief) and heavily – armoured Pinacosaurus. Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park is a national park in southern Mongolia. The park was established in 1993, and expanded to its current size in 2000. The park, at nearly 27,000 square kilometers, is the largest national park in Mongolia.The park is named for the Gurvansaikhan Mountains, which translates to the Three Beauties. The name is derived from three subranges, the East, Middle and West Beauty. The range forms the eastern half of the park.The park lies on the northern edge of the Gobi desert. The higher elevations contain areas of steppe. A number of rare plants and animals are found in the park, including the elusive snow leopard and the Gobi Camel. Areas of sand dunes are found, most famously the Khongoryn Els - the Singing Sands.
